How to Use the Be Do Have Model to Reach Your Goals with Ease and Flow
with practical tips to help you start shifting today
Hello and happy Sunday!
Today I want to share with you a model & framework for beginning to shift your identity into one where you are living the life you desire: The BE DO HAVE model
The Be Do Have model was originally created by Ram Dass. It was also used in the Erhard Seminar Training beginning in 1971, the Forum, and Landmark Trainings.
I used the Be Do Have model to help me transform into the identity of the “Identified Entrepreneur.” When I started my business, I was focused on creating structures, routines, and feeling like I needed to do all the things in order to grow.
But when I learned this Be Do Have model, I started doing things now that put me into a state of being the version of myself that already has a successful business.
For example, I started holding monthly meetings (by myself!) to celebrate wins from the prior month in order to feel proud, confident and grateful - all feelings that I was hoping a successful business would eventually bring to me.
By feeling into those feelings now even before I had the level of success I wanted, I was able to grow my business faster with ease and flow! Way easier than if I had kept grinding and forcing myself to work harder and harder to achieve those same results!
Why Use This Model to Shift Identities
Mindset and identity work are really at the root of all successful major changes we make in our lives.
The actions and decisions you make on your journey are directly related to your self-belief and identity.
How you get there is how you are going to be when you get there.
Sure, hustling, grinding and doing all the things MAY eventually get you results. But it could lead to burnout. Or it could leave you feeling resentful for how busy you are. And you WILL still be super busy and burnt out even after you’ve achieved some of the things you set out to do. Again, how you get there is how you are going to be when you get there!
And that’s not a very fun or sustainable way to live.
Having this framework and actionable guide will help you succeed in getting the results you want because the actions that take you there will come more naturally when you’re already acting like the person you want to become!
What is the Be-Do-Have Model
Do you want to become someone who is responsibly managing their money on a regular basis? Maybe you want to be an entrepreneur who is fulfilled financially, emotionally and has a flexible schedule? Or maybe you want to be in a loving romantic relationship.
Start by thinking of the person you want to become - this model will help you move into that identity.
Let’s go over what this model is NOT. Aka - what a lot of us have been doing & have been taught by society to do:

HAVE DO BE: They think they need to HAVE things, in order to DO things, in order to BE something - this is the giver upper. But they spend so much time waiting around for those things to fall into their lap, that they give up and say that these things will never be theirs, because they haven’t shown up yet. So they don’t take any action and things stay the same.
They say, “When I HAVE enough time, money and support, then I’ll DO the things I’ve always wanted to, and then I’ll BE happy and successful. The problem is I don’t HAVE yet. If I had what that person had, I’d certainly be as successful as them, but I don’t so I’m not.”
This identity is always waiting for external things to change before they can move ahead in life.
When I HAVE the money, the business, the loving partner, then I’ll DO the things I’ve always dreamed of, and then I’ll BE fulfilled and happy.
DO HAVE BE: We need to DO things so we can HAVE things so we can BE a thing (the busy bee). This person thinks the only way to get what they want is to constantly be busy and doing all of the things. But they get so busy they never really get to a point where they can stop - they’re just constantly busy.
They say, “The more I DO, the more I’ll HAVE. The more I’ll HAVE, the happier I’ll BE. The problem is, the more I do, the more there is still to do and the more I have to more there is still to have. I am defined by what I do so I become driven, busy and tired. The more I have, the more there is to lose so the harder I work.”
We all know that the link between having more things and being happier is a myth, so being happy never arrives.
And so enters the BE DO HAVE model:
They say, “It is not what do I need to HAVE before I can start, or what work do I need to DO… but who do I need to BE? What kind of person would have access to the kind of outcomes I want? Then being that kind of person, what would I be doing? And then the having takes care of itself.”
You can think of it like a waterfall:
If you’re BEING the person you want to be NOW, you’re naturally DOING the things that that type of person would do, and then the HAVING comes naturally, and flowy with ease!
Sure there is still action that needs to be taken when in the BE DO HAVE model, but those actions will come intuitively and easily. You will be able to trust and know when it’s time to take action because it feels good, and fun, and easy.
Practical Tips to Practice the Be Do Have Model
Here are a few simple steps to get you started on practicing this way of being:
Get started with a clear picture - what identity are you stepping into?
Explore archetype work to help you envision your new identity
play with writing letters to yourself from a future version of yourself. What lessons, guidance and wisdom do they have for you today?
Practice a future visualization meditation. Imagine your life 1, 5 or even 10 years into the future. What are you doing? Where are you? What are you feeling on a regular basis?
With those visions and feelings in mind, write down 10 ways you could bring those states of being into your life right now. Get creative. Now, pick one thing and schedule it in your calendar to actually start BEING that person you want to be!
Practice mindset work regularly
What kinds of thoughts would the version of yourself be having? Set a timer for 5 minutes and write down everything that comes to mind.
With those new upgraded thoughts, plug them into the self-coaching model and work your way up to being able to actually believe them. I’d recommend working with one thought at a time. And do this work weekly, if not daily.
And now my final secret in shifting your identity… Actually taking the time to do these practices 😊
It’s really the only way! There are no right answers. There are no real shortcuts.
But I promise you, the results are worth it!

💎 I’ve recently started a new hobby and I’m so freaking excited about it!! ~Rock Hounding~ where you literally go out in nature and find treasures like sparkly rocks, agates, crystals, gemstones, and even gold! I joined my local club, and they host field trips to areas that the public usually can’t go to because it’s a privately owned claim. I went on my first field trip with the club last weekend and it was the freaking best. We found some cool blue agate!
📺 On the topic of rock hounding and all things prospecting, I got to meet famous prospector Dan Hurd on that field trip too!! I’ve been bingeing his YouTube videos because I love his energy and passion for this work. He’s a super goofy guy, a great teacher and just as nice in person 😊
